My metaphor : The world of internet is like a maze.


Summary of my research:

There are a few impact of drug abuse on youth such as physical risk, pyschological risk, behavioral changes, poor school performance as well as addiction. Young people use drugs for social acceptance because they are suffering and need to escape from their own lives. Whatever the reason, the consequences of drug use are the same. Certain factors put some youths at a higher risk for becoming seriously involved with drugs. The greater the number of drug threats a child is exposed to, the higher the chance the child will abuse drugs. Some factors that might lead to youth drug abuse are due to family history, parenting style, peer pressure and academic attitude. There are actually many ways to prevent youth drug abuse which should begin at home with parents and even older siblings. With open communication, honesty and planning it is possible to keep young people from ever starting drug use.

The place which i want to go for my dream holiday is London.
I chose London was my Dream Holiday because,


London is well-known for The London Eye which is also known as the Millennium Wheel.
The London Eye is also the Largest Ferris Wheel in Europe.
The London Eye is located at the western end of Jubilee Gardens, on South Bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Lambeth in England.
If I'm able to go for my dream holiday, I would definitely want take a ride on The London Eye and have a view of London when I'm at the highest peak of the ride.


The evaluation criteria that i have used to evaluate the multimedia websites for mydream holiday are purpose, coverage, accessibility and usability. Purpose is such that i know what is the aim of this website and what kind of information does this website provide me with. Coverage is that how much the information is there, whether does the information i required is detailed enough. Accesibility is whether because i need to log in to the website to see the information; how accesible is this website. And for usuability is whether does this website easy to nagivate around so that i can search for my information more easily.

The criteria that I have used to evaulate Stomp.com are the purpose, coverage, currency, accessibility and usability. I choosed these criteria were because stomp is a kind of citizen journalism website that enables singaporeans come together to interact and bond both online and offline in our various Talkback forums, and in Singapore seen. information on stomp may not be totally truthful, however, are up-to-date. I evaluate the purpose of this website so that i will know what this website is all about. Next, the coverage of this website is to see how comprehensive are the information found on this website; are there other references or resources regarding a particular information posted on this website such as articles, videos and pictures. Currency would be the date that the information are putted up, whether the news and information are already happened long ago or currently happening. Accesibility is whether the information able to be obtained easily without logging in to the site. Stomp.com is a website that anybody can read the news or information on it but to comment on the website, it is requied to be the member of stomp. As for the last criteria that i have used to evaluate this website is the usability of it whether is the website easy to navigate around. on Stomp.com there are icons to navigate to the different catagory of the website which is very convenient.

I felt that sharing my views via the wiki is a good way of exchanging information with the others and this enables me to look at other people's way of viewing this matter as well.
Practical 6

In today's lesson, I have learned to use the invisible search engine to search for relevant information regarding my topic. After using the databases to search for information, i personally felt that using the invisibe databases is quite effective compare to some meta search engines because i will be able to obtain other kind of information such as in the form of academic journals, magazine or newspaper. However, the weakness of it may be because the information may be some how irrelevant and not specific enough unlike the information found by search engines such as google or yahoo.

If possible, i may use the invisible web(databases) to research in my wn respective diplomas because i would not want to limit my research findings only to the information found in those typical search engines, e.g. yahoo.
With the help from these databases, i believe that i can search for more information.

During this practical, i have also learned that by collaborating information with the others on the wiki could actually allows me to understand what are views of the others regarding the same topic. Also, i will be able to see other people's findings and thus, could gain more information as well.

In today's lesson, i have learned to use different search facilities to search for resources related to my topic. I felt useful in doing this as i get to see the results obtained by different search facilities. I can get different information from different search engine which is useful for my research. Through this i can compare the different search facilities in order to know which will be a more suitable search engine to use.

Second part of the activity is to site feed two blogs of my fellow classmates. I felt that it is very convenient to use site feeds in my blog as i can have easier excess to all the websites i wanted to visit without memorising their URL or to search for their websites.

For the part that i collaborate on wiki with other students who share the similar research topic as me, i felt that it is helpful in my research as i could see what is the opinion of other people with regards to my topic.
In today's lesson, we've learned about some search strategy that can be applied when we research for our selected topics. Through today's lesson, I have also learned more about the advantages and disadvantages of google and google scholar. Seriously speaking, I was impressed by google's search function or features. This is because through the comparision of google and google scholar, I have noticed how much effective it is to use google as a search engine to research for my topic. It is definitely faster, more relevant, easier to use, simpler than google scholar.

Participating in discussion forum is definitely helpful for my research becasue I could get to see how people response to the regarding issue. This makes me understand more about the topic I am researching on hence, I will be able to produce a more relevant and accurate results of my research. I am slightly nervous in talking to others whom I do not know in the discussion forum. For example, when I post a question on the forum, I am not sure how would people response to my questions or whether will they reply or not.

The purpose of us to do citation or bibliography because inadequate citations contributes to plagiarism, therfore to avoid plagiarism, we have to do citation and bibliography. Also in a way to acknowledge the source of information.
Today is the second lesson. As usual, the class did the same thing like going on blogs and twitter. I have decided and confirm on the topic to research on. Many people chose the topic about eating disorder in youths. Thought of choosing that topic actually but I changed to impact of drug abuse on youths. I think it would be equally interesting. The first part of today's lesson was to research on my selected topic, next part was to go for an E shopping spree with $500.
